MISSION STATEMENT |
The Mission of the Society of St. Vincent de
Paul in Australia is to deepen the catholic faith of its members - to go out
into our nation to heighten awareness of Jesus Christ. |
We do this by sharing ourselves
– who we are and what we have – with the poor on a person-to-person basis. |
We seek to cooperate in shaping a more just
and compassionate Australian community, and to share our resources with our
twinned countries. |
Our preferred option in this mission of
service is to work with the poor in development, by respecting their dignity,
sharing our hope, and encouraging them to take control of their own destiny. |

The Mission of the Society |
The particular role of The Society of St
Vincent de Paul is to work with disadvantaged people in our society. This
will include not only working directly with disadvantaged people, but also
addressing issues of justice, advocating for the rights of disadvantaged
people and empowering them to access the goods and services of society. We
see our role is to walk with those whom we serve, to work cooperatively with them and to offer them hope through empowerment.
The Society of St Vincent de Paul has its
own particular religious base in the Catholic Church as a lay organisation. We offer our services without
discrimination, respecting the values of those with whom we work and
supporting their religious affiliations. We encourage all those with whom we
work to develop a sense of their own worth and a belief in their own
potential regardless of power or material possessions.
