Cardinal Freeman Centre -

This is a crisis accommodation centre for homeless men and is located at East St, Granville.

Volunteers are currently need to help out with administration and secretarial tasks, cooking and helping the

residents. Volunteers are also needed for this services Management Committee. Contact the Manager of

VINNIES  VAN -

Is a food van that visit people on the streets in Penrith and Parramatta offering a hot drink and a listening ear.

 

 

Caroline Chisholm Centre -

Is a support and education centre which operates with two paid staff and over 40 volunteers. 

Currently volunteers are operating in the capacity of budget counselling, pregnancy counselling, operating in sewing classes, computer classes, anger management classes and parenting skill classes.

 

Our Lady of the Way -

Provides accommodation for women who come out of experiences of domestic violence, physical or

psychological. The women are then continued on to established counselling programs in health, self esteem and self reliance.

 

          

 

 

Compeer Program -

A friendship program that helps people with mental illness to participate in community living. Compeer matches

volunteers with people who have  a mental health problem. Volunteers meet with their friend on a regular basis at  mutually convenient times to enjoy activities friends typically do together such as having a picnic, going for a

walk, or having coffee or seeing a movie

 

Youth Activities -

Kids Camps/Buddies Days

Sponsors disadvantaged children of the Diocese to holiday camps and 'Buddies Days'. Sponsoring of

families in need by parish conferences and involved heavily in the Vinnies Van night patrol service.

Also participating in school social justice days and interschool forums.

   

 

S.P.A.R.K.

This program seeks to provide curriculum, social and cultural support to newly arrived refugee children and their families with intended outcomes being: aiding refugee settlement, raising mainstream community awareness about refugees, and facilitating chances for social contact and mutual appreciation between refugee and mainstream communities. The pilot program has been implemented in three primary schools in the Parramatta area.

 

Conferences -

Conference members are volunteers associated to their local parish conference who meet regularly and visit 

people in their homes offering assistance and support. Contact your local parish priest to determine if their is a

local Conference in your parish and find out if you can assist. If not you can contact the Diocesan office to join

one, or look at starting a Conference in your parish.

Margaret Druitt Day Care Centre?

This is a long day care service in Emerton, and is a special work of the Society looking after the community

welfare of families who struggle for day care, providing affordable day care service for children. Also assisting

in skills development for school years, assist parents in coping with behavioural or learning difficulties of their

child.

  

  

Budget Counselling

Working with people to develop their own budget within their financial resources and developing skills to enable

self-sufficiency. If you are an accountant or financial planner with time on your hands, you too can help with

budget counselling.

       

 

 

Disaster Recovery

In times of natural disasters the St Vincent de Paul Society is there to assist with disaster recovery, supplying

food, blankets, shelter and support, not only during the crisis but well and truly after the event has subsided.
